The opportunity has arisen to join an industry leader in UK’s & Ireland’s Building Services sector. Alternative Heat design, develop and deliver a wide range of offsite-prefabricated, innovative, and sustainable building service solutions throughout the UK & Europe.

What We Do:

We specialise in the design, supply, and installation of a wide range of prefabricated energy solutions, typically built in NI and shipped throughout the UK & Europe. We also offer turnkey design, build, and operate solutions for commercial energy centres and large-scale district heating solutions and have experience with successfully procuring and delivering many similar packages to a wide range of public bodies throughout UK & Europe.

Team Overview:

The Health, Safety & Environment (HSE) department is dedicated to ensuring the wellbeing of all employees, contractors, and visitors across every project and site. They develop, implement, and monitor safety policies, risk assessments, and compliance with legal and industry standards. By fostering a strong safety culture and promoting environmental responsibility, the HSE team plays a critical role in protecting people, reducing incidents, and supporting sustainable business practices throughout Alternative Heat.

Role Overview:

The Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) Officer will support the organisation in maintaining high standards of environmental performance, health protection, and regulatory compliance. You’ll work across engineering, manufacturing, installation, and project delivery teams to ensure safe, sustainable, and responsible operations.

What You’ll be Doing:

Health Protection & Workplace Safety

  • Provide advice and support to managers, supervisors and employees.
  • Conduct workplace inspections, RAMS, and develop SSoW and ensure these are effectively applied.
  • Advise on occupational health risks, safe working practices, and control measures.
  • Complete incident investigations and implement corrective actions.
  • Deliver a wide and varied programme of training.
  • Maintain site, workshop and equipment inspections.

Compliance & Sustainability

  • Monitor and ensure compliance with environmental, health & safety legislation, permits, and industry standards.
  • Support sustainability initiatives.
  • Develop and implement waste‑management, pollution‑prevention, and resource‑efficiency strategies.
  • Maintain documentation, audits, and reporting requirements.

Collaboration & Continuous Improvement

  • Work closely with engineering, manufacturing, and installation teams to embed best practices.
  • Support ISO management systems (e.g., ISO 14001, ISO 45001).
  • Promote a culture of environmental responsibility and health-conscious behaviour.
  • Contribute to internal audits and continuous improvement initiatives.

What You Need to Have:

  • Degree in Environmental, Occupational Health, or other related fields.
  • Experience in manufacturing, engineering, construction, or renewable‑energy sectors is an advantage.
  • Strong knowledge of Irish and UK environmental, health & safety legislation.
  • Experience with ISO management systems is desirable.
  • Excellent communication, analytical, and problem‑solving skills.
  • Fluency in written and spoken English is essential.
