Ireland Immigration Update: No More Postal Acknowledgement Letters for Submitted Documents
The Irish Immigration Service Delivery (ISD) has introduced a new administrative process that affects applicants who send immigration documents by post.
Due to a significant increase in immigration applications and postal correspondence, ISD is simplifying its internal procedures to improve processing efficiency. As part of these changes, applicants should no longer expect to receive a confirmation or acknowledgement after sending documents through the mail.
What Has Changed?
Effective immediately, ISD will no longer issue acknowledgement letters or emails confirming receipt of documents sent by post.
This applies to:
- Supporting documents submitted after an application has been lodged
- Additional evidence requested by ISD
- Letters relating to an existing immigration application
- Postal enquiries regarding application progress
Although acknowledgements are no longer being issued, every document received will still be added to the applicant’s file and reviewed during the assessment process.
Does This Mean My Documents Were Not Received?
No.
The absence of an acknowledgement should not be interpreted as a lost or rejected submission. ISD has confirmed that all documents delivered to their offices will continue to form part of your immigration application.
How Can You Confirm Delivery?
If you want proof that your documents have reached ISD, it is recommended that you use registered or tracked postal services.
Your postal tracking number will serve as confirmation that the package has been successfully delivered. ISD will not send an additional receipt or confirmation, even for registered mail.
Use the Customer Service Portal Whenever Possible
Where electronic submission is available, ISD strongly encourages applicants to upload copies of supporting documents through the official Customer Service Portal instead of sending them by post.
Submitting documents online can help reduce processing delays and allows your information to be linked to your application more efficiently.
Tips to Avoid Delays
To help ensure your application is processed as quickly as possible:
- Include all required supporting documents when submitting your initial application.
- Respond promptly if ISD requests additional information.
- Use tracked or registered post whenever original documents must be mailed.
- Submit document copies electronically through the Customer Service Portal whenever permitted.
- Keep your postal tracking details until your application has been completed.
Checking the Status of Your Application
If you would like an update on your immigration application, you should log in to the ISD Customer Service Portal instead of sending postal enquiries.
The online portal remains the preferred method for checking application progress and communicating with the immigration authorities.
