IT & Software Engineer – Food & Hospitality Group
Location: Ballybofey, Donegal, Ireland
Salary: €40,000 – €50,000 per year (DOE)

About the Role
We are seeking a highly skilled IT & Software Engineer to design, develop, and manage a fully integrated digital ecosystem for a growing food and hospitality group. Our business includes a takeaway outlet, restaurant, food wholesale division, and catering services.
This role is ideal for a hands-on engineer who can build custom software solutions, manage IT infrastructure, and ensure smooth digital operations across multiple business units. The successful candidate will also ensure GDPR compliance, strong cybersecurity, and scalable systems to support business growth.
Key Responsibilities
Software Development & System Integration
- Design and develop a centralised IT system connecting takeaway, restaurant, wholesale, and catering operations
- Build custom software solutions for:
- Inventory and stock management
- Order processing and fulfilment
- Online ordering and table bookings
- Wholesale customer accounts and invoicing
- Integrate POS systems, online ordering platforms, accounting software, and internal databases
- Develop APIs and automation tools to improve workflow efficiency
- Create a real-time reporting dashboard for business performance and insights
Website & Digital Platforms
- Develop, manage, and maintain the company website
- Handle eCommerce functionality, menu updates, booking systems, and customer portals
- Optimise online ordering systems to improve customer experience and reduce delays
IT Infrastructure & Support
- Manage hardware, software, cloud systems, servers, and networks across all locations
- Ensure secure and reliable connectivity between branches and remote systems
- Perform regular system maintenance, backups, and disaster recovery planning
- Provide ongoing technical support and troubleshooting for staff
- Train employees on new systems and provide clear technical documentation
Cybersecurity & GDPR Compliance
- Implement strong cybersecurity measures to protect customer and business data
- Conduct regular vulnerability assessments and apply security patches
- Ensure all digital processes comply with GDPR regulations
- Maintain documentation for audits, data protection policies, and compliance reporting
Business Growth & Innovation
- Improve system performance, scalability, and reliability as the business expands
- Work closely with management to identify digital innovation opportunities
- Support long-term digital transformation initiatives
Qualifications & Experience
- Degree in Software Engineering, Computer Science, IT, or equivalent practical experience
- Minimum 1 year of proven experience in custom software development and IT systems management
- Strong knowledge of programming languages such as Python, JavaScript, PHP, C#, or similar
- Experience with databases (SQL/NoSQL), networking, and server management
- Solid understanding of GDPR compliance and cybersecurity best practices
- Experience in the hospitality, retail, or food industry is an advantage

Salary & Working Hours
- Salary: €40,000 – €50,000 per annum (based on experience)
- Hours: Minimum 40 hours per week
- Monday to Friday, 9:00 AM – 5:30 PM
